Ingredients
Rice – 1 cup
Tur dal – 2 Tsp
Coconut – 1 cup grated
Jaggery - 11/2cup
Cashewnuts – 2 Tsp
Ghee - ½ cup
Preparation
Take a pan and dry roast the rice and tur dal to golden colour.
Allow it to cool and grind this to a coarse powder like Sooji/Rava.
Pressure cook this rice with 3 cups of water.
Add ½ a cup water add jaggery, when it boils add the cooked rice-dal, coconut.
Mix thoroughly without any lumps in a medium flame for about 5 minutes till it reaches the kali consistency.
Add cashew nuts and the balance ghee.
Thiruvadhirai kali is ready.
Kali can also be prepared in pressure cooker also. Take a pan roast the cashew nuts with ghee and collect it in a cup. Add ½ cup water and jaggery, allow it to boil add coconut, powdered rice dal, and 3 cups water for rice. Mix well and transfer this contents to a vessel and pressure cook(3 whistles).
Allow it to cool and add cashew nuts and the balance ghee.
If you feel that the kali is little watery, heat this for another two minutes.
