Paruppu podi


There are different methods in preparing paruppu podi.  Some will use only fried gram (pottu kadalai in tamil, chutny dhal in hindi) , some will use chana dal and toor dahal. Here i am going to use all the three to prepare this.

Ingredients

Fried gram   1 cup
Chana dhal   1 cup
Toor dhal      1 cup
Salt               To taste
Black pepper 1 Tsp
Asafoetida    1 Tsp
Red chillies    7 or 8
Curry leaves   25 Leaves
 Oil                  1 Tsp



Method

Heat a kadai dry roast the dhals separately in a low flame until golden brown and collect it in a plate and let it cool for some time.  It should not turn in to black. 
Now add 1 Tsp oil add pepper, red chillies, asafoetida, curry leaves and salt and fry for a minute.
Grind all the ingredients to a fine powder and store it in a container . Paruppu podi is ready.
Paruppu podi rice
Take a cup of cooked rice and add 1 tsp of ghee and 1 tsp of this powder and  mix it well with the bottom of the spoon or laddle. Serve it with pappad , Morkuzhambu or simply with curd.
