onion vatha kuzhambu

Ingredients
Tamarind  - Lemon size
Small onions  - 200 gms peeled
Sambar powder - 2 Tsp
Salt
Tomato   - 1
Mustard seeds - 1/2Tsp
Methi seeds  - 1/4 Tsp
Curry leaves  - 1 Tsp
Hing   - 1/2 Tsp
Oil               - 5 Tsp
Jaggery  - 1 Tsp

Method
Soak tamarind in 200 ml water and extract the juice.  Again add some water and extract .
Heat the oil in a pan add mustard seeds, methi seeds , curry leaves, hing and small onions and saute well.
Now add chilly powder and saute for 30 seconds without burning.
Then add the tamarind juice and salt and jaggery. Grind the tomato and add it to the mixture and allow it to boil till the raw smell goes.
Let it cook in medium flame for 10 to 15 minutes till the aroma of onion vetha kuzhambu comes.
Enjoy this with hot steamed rice with little ghee . Serve with appalam or vadaam.
